The instruments in this painting were drawn from small instruments in my music box. The characters were drawn from my imagination. I used a pen, then painted with watercolor, then used pen again. The all over chaotic lines complement the title of the story, “All Together Now”, taken from a Beatles’s song.
They all saw the sign at the coffee shop. Band members wanted. All together now. They came and they brought their instruments, and they all began to play at the same time.
Teddy Bear shook his head and yelled, “Stop, Listen to me!. Then he sang, “All Together Now, All Together Now!” “Now is it your turn,” He added, “Play the notes one at a time as I point to you.”
Alan tinkered on the chimes, feeling every sound. Barney blew perky notes on his clarinet, moving his fingers up and down. George held his bells in his arms, and he shook them with his whole body. Ernie raised his arms far above his head and he smashed the xylophone with all of his might. Theresa hit the chimes, then the drums, making the loudest sound of them all.
Teddy Bear smiled and said, “Oh, that was so much better. Now we will play the notes all together as a guide you.”
Alan, Barney, George, Ernie and Theresa played together wonderfully, and Teddy Bear swayed his arms and danced along. The musicians played the song again and again and again, and they all danced along as well.

The title of the second image is “Spinning”. The 4 characters seems in their own worlds, alone to play their instruments with all of their hearts. A hand holds the top of a dreidel, ready to spin.
The concept of the painting came from the words of a song by Don McClean, ” I feel like a spinning top or a dreidel. Spinning don’tstop when you leave the cradle, it just slows down. Round and around the world you go, spinning through the lives of the people you know, we all slow down.” Our lives spin like a top, sometimes orderly, sometimes out of our control.
The sides of the dreidel are the letters from the Hebrew words, Nes, Gadol, Heh, Shin, “A great miracle happened there.” This can also be interpreted as a great miracle happens here is each of our lives when we are active to being open to God’s spinning hand.
The title of the third image is “Jazzy Birds” I drew and combined my own version from “A Coloring Book of Ancient Egypt.” by Bellerophon Books, 2000. I drew it in pen, then added pastel color. The composition is very active and dynamic, and the blended colors make the birds glow. I can hear the jazzy music.
